Nikki, CNM
Nikki grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. Both of her parents were involved in healthcare, and her interest began while attending Middlebury College in Vermont for her bachelor’s degree in geography and sociology-anthropology. An externship working with two homebirth certified nurse midwives led her to pursue a career in midwifery. She moved to the Pacific Northwest to attend Oregon Health & Science University for her bachelor’s degree in nursing and master’s degree in nurse midwifery. In her practice, Nikki enjoys working with women from different cultures and traditions in supporting normal birth, breastfeeding and helping them make contraceptive choices for their family. Other areas of interest include educating women about their health overall, promoting wellness through dietary counseling and encouraging healthy lifestyles. Nikki enjoys a variety of outdoor activities in her spare time, including hiking, skiing, traveling and working in the garden. She also enjoys spending time with friends and family.
Liz, CNM
Liz received her master's degree in nurse midwifery from Oregon Health and Science University. Her passion is supporting women through pregnancy and childbirth, as well as taking care of the basic reproductive health of women from puberty to menopause. She feels strongly that a patient and her health care provider should work as a team to meet the patient's health needs. Liz is a Portland native and enjoys spending time with her family in the area. She also enjoys hiking, gardening and spending time with her dog. She speaks fluent Spanish and enjoys working with women from other cultures.
Lauren, CNM
Lauren grew up on the Florida coast. She moved to the Northwest to attend Reed College for her undergraduate degree in Psychology, and subsequently fell in love with Portland and the practice of midwifery. After college, she pursued graduate training in nurse midwifery at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee, which is where she met and became friends with fellow WHA midwives Christine Barlow and Jody Lindwall. While at Vanderbilt, Lauren won the American College of Nurse Midwives Foundation Scholarship, which is awarded annually to an outstanding midwifery student. Before joining WHA, Lauren practiced full-scope midwifery at a clinic for low-income women. She also worked as a registered nurse on labor and delivery and as a medical examiner for a sexual assault center. Lauren loves midwifery because it allows her to help women understand the changes they undergo during very important times in their lives. She enjoys being a resource of information and experience, and hopes for all her patients to feel empowered enough to decide which path is right for them. Her special interests include working with teens, with a focus on family planning and healthy choices, and working with underserved populations. She has volunteered internationally with Doctors Without Borders as well as locally with the Opening Doors and Project Network programs.
Lauren is married to her high school sweetheart. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, gardening, music, traveling, and loves the outdoors.
Jessie, CNM
Jessie was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. She received her master's degree in nurse midwifery from Oregon Health and Science University.
Jessie believes that menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth and menopause are normal life processes. Her goal is to empower women to take charge of their health at every phase of life. She also seeks to help women during pregnancy to reduce stress and instill healthy diet and exercise habits that can benefit them throughout life. Jessie enjoys biking to work, hiking, skiing and spending time with her husband and two school age children.
Katie, CNM
Katie grew up in Central New York and received her bachelors degree from Hamilton College. Her original intention was to study law until a semester abroad in Holland when she became fascinated by midwifery.
Katie received both her undergraduate degree in nursing and her and master's degree in nurse midwifery from Oregon Health and Science University in Portland. She loves supporting women to live healthy, happy lives. She believes deeply women should feel comfortable and respected throughout pregnancy, birth and gynecological care. She also feels a good laugh here and there makes it all a little easier. Katie especially enjoys adolescent care and helping women find a birth control they love. In her free time Katie escapes to the mountains and enjoys time with her friends, dog and family
